More and more of our young people are benefitting from the great range of apprenticeships available to them. The University Technical College will open this September, and will involve local businesses like BAe and Airbus, giving young people a real feeling for what hi-tech industry involves and how learning the skills translates into a rewarding career.
I am pleased that many of our young people are going to university. Historically, we had lower-than-average rates of university entry by 18 year-olds, but that picture is improving.
There is a lot happening in Portsmouth in opening up new paths for young people in the world of training and work, and I will do everything I can to drive that forward if I’m successful on June 8th.
