Improve standards in our schools

My interest in education was what originally inspired me to get involved in politics. As a mother of four, and like any parent, I’ve devoted a lot of time to thinking about education and how our schools perform. I became an Ofsted inspector because I wanted to get involved, and now I’m a school governor at Milton Park Primary.

Portsmouth's schools have improved dramatically in recent years, thanks to the hard work of our teachers and staff. But the support from the Conservative government with the "Pupil Premium" and continued investment is also crucial. I was delighted to help Arundel Court Primary secure funds from the government for its rebuilding programme, and I hope to be able to help many more Portsmouth schools in the years ahead.

Education is about more than classroom work, sport, drama, music and the arts all matter too. I will work hard to make sure that every child has the best opportunities, whether academically or in these other fields. My commitment to education is at the heart of my “Plan for Portsmouth”.
