Press release:
Flick Drummond, MP for Portsmouth South, has visited a new housing development in Portsmouth South that is protected by NHBC’s 10 year Buildmark warranty.
Mrs Drummond met with representatives from NHBC and the developers, Bellway, at their Guardians Gate development, which provides a variety of traditional house styles to suit a range of tastes. Fifty-five affordable homes are also included in the development.
NHBC’s unique constituency-based figures show that in Portsmouth South, the number of new homes started grew by 59% from 2013 to 2014. In 2013, 43 homes were started in Mrs Drummond’s constituency, more than doubling to 104 last year. With over half of the 191 homes already built, the Guardian Gate development is providing a much needed boost of new homes for the local area.
The site visit was organised by NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, to highlight its risk management processes and to show the MP a prime example of new homes that meet current building regulations.
Flick Drummond commented: “Portsmouth is in great need of high quality homes like these and I’m pleased that more are being built in the constituency this year than last.
“But everyone knows that more homes must be built in the south east and organisations like NHBC and developers like Bellway have important parts to play in achieving even greater numbers in the years to come.
“It was also great speak to an apprentice about his work experience when I visited the site. There is a massive skills shortage in the construction sector and an important way to fill it is to offer meaningful apprenticeships to young people.”
Ian Beal, Managing Director, Bellway Homes Wessex Region said: “Housing is such an important subject and it is very encouraging that our new local MP was keen to come and visit us at Guardians Gate. This has been a very successful development meeting a wide range of housing needs and is now home and a community to many different types of purchasers.”
Sophie Fernandes, NHBC Public Affairs Manager said: “We were delighted to be able to show Flick Drummond first-hand how we are supporting builders to construct high quality family homes in Portsmouth South. It is vital that we deliver high standards on-site as the industry works to meet the growing need for housing. NHBC will continue to work with the industry and all political parties to ensure that the build quality of new homes in the UK remains high.”
Comprising of two, three and four-bedroom homes, Bellway Guardians Gate development suits a range of needs and is ideally located close to Portsmouth city centre. Prices range from £284,995 to £349,995 and all plots are afforded a garage and/or parking, along with a landscaped garden.
