Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has welcomed Havant and East Hampshire councils receiving nearly £93,000 in government cash to tackle rough sleeping.
The money will be used by the two authorities to support some of the most vulnerable people in their communities and is a share of an additional £112 million released through the Rough Sleeping Initiative.
“I’m very pleased to hear this money has been granted and it will make a big difference in ensuring we help get people off the streets and in to safe and secure accommodation,” said Flick.
“Rough sleeping is not a major problem in Meon Valley but there are a small number who do so in Waterlooville and I will be speaking to Havant Borough Council to ask how this money will be used to help them.
“The government has pledged to end rough sleeping completely by 2024 and latest figures show that, across England, it fell by nine per cent last year, so real progress is being made in this important area.”
