Today’s figures show that Hampshire has had one of the biggest falls in crime in the country, a 24% reduction, the average was 16%. This is good news for residents in the County.
Flick Drummond, Conservative candidate in Portsmouth South, says ‘this is a testament to the hard working police offices and PCSOs in the County. I was very pleased to hold a meeting with the Home Secretary and Portsmouth PCSOs and Community Wardens recently so she could hear about the good work that is going on in Portsmouth and Southsea. Having been a victim of a burglary while my family slept in our house in Southsea, I know the consequences of crime but I hope this means that we can feel safer in our homes and on our streets’.
The Government is following an action plan to tackle crime by:
- Freeing the police to fight crime by cutting red tape and scrapping unnecessary targets
- 2. Giving criminals tougher sentences so communities are protected and justice is done
- 3. Giving the police the powers they need to tackle criminals, using the latest tools and techniques
- 4. Stopping people from becoming criminals by tackling the root causes of crime
- 5. Making the police answer to the community to help drive down crime in your area
