Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has welcomed more than £26.3 million of government money coming to Hampshire County Council to help fund provision for children with special educational needs.
The money is to provide specialist support for pupils with autism, learning difficulties, mobility difficulties, and more to meet their extra needs.
It is part of a record £850 million the government is spending with councils nationally to create new places for SEND and alternative provision children.
In Hampshire, it was announced this week Solent Academies Trust will run a new special school in the south of the county. It will work closely with the county council and Whiteley Academy to offer specialist education for 135 pupils aged 4 to 18 with Severe Learning Difficulties.
“Hampshire has a wonderful reputation for its commitment and excellence in SEND education and this money will help build on that,” said Flick.
“All children need to be able to take part and be offered the very best facilities and education so they can reach their potential. This money will help do that and it is most welcome.”
