Flick joined the team at the Marie Curie Shop in Southsea on 24 October as part of Make a Difference Day, an annual celebration of the contribution of volunteers.
Flick thanked Marie Curie shop volunteers for their commitment and hard work, which is vital in helping Marie Curie to provide high quality support to people affected by terminal illness. Flick also turned her hand to taking donations, stacking racks and shelves, pricing good and serving customers.
Make a Difference Day on 24 October 2015 is a celebration of volunteering which started in the USA 24 years ago and aims to raise awareness of the benefits of volunteering and contribution that volunteers make to their local communities.
Flick said: “It was a real pleasure to help out on Saturday and to learn about what makes a good shop work so well and to meet customers, staff and volunteers, one of whom was a young student from South Downs College. Marie Curie volunteers make a vital contribution to raising money for the charity. Without them, these shops would not be able to raise the funds needed to help and comfort those in the final days of their lives.”
Scott Sinclair, Head of Policy & Public Affairs, England said: “Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to Marie Curie, and without their support we wouldn’t be able to raise the vital funds needed to provide hands-on nursing care to people with a terminal illness. Volunteers are an important aspect of everything Marie Curie does, from supporting our shops to helping ensure the smooth running of our hospices. We are hugely grateful to Ms Drummond for giving his time at their local Marie Curie Shop to celebrate local volunteers and the difference they make to people with a terminal illness and their families.”
