Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond is supporting Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign to help millions of women and girls get active.
Sport England first launched the National Lottery funded campaign in 2015 in response to fewer women than men being regularly active - despite 75 per cent saying they would like to do more.
It has received widespread praise for its realistic and empowering portrayal of women and girls, and it has inspired almost four million women to take action, including three million returning to or increasing their levels of activity.
Flick joined the This Girl Can team in Parliament this week to celebrate International Women’s Day, and talked to Sport England about what more could be done to support women to be more active in the Meon Valley
“I’m really a big supporter of this successful campaign and the record numbers of women playing sport show that This Girl Can has really struck a chord but clearly more needs to be done,” said Flick.
“I urge local groups and organisations – not just sports clubs, but any community groups who work with women and want to arrange activities or classes to encourage women to sign up with This Girl Can at www.thisgirlcan.co.uk to access a range of free resources.”
Flick was pleased to join other women and girls at Clanfield Sports and Community Centre on Sunday to play netball in celebration of International Women's Day.
